3 Times The Adult Industry Restored Our Faith In Humanity

By getting people off, I think by now it’s a forgone conclusion that adult entertainment does us a huge public, and personal health, service.

That being said, the good folks who put out worthy fodder for our spank banks are also eager to help when it comes to a good cause. Here are some of the most humanity faith-restoring initiatives that stars and starlets have contributed to, proving definitively that these performers, in addition to well-executed bedroom antics, have hearts of gold.

Boob Aid

StopAIDS!, a Japanese charity devoted to upping awareness for HIV/AIDS, puts together a pretty racy event each year; translated roughly to “Boob Aid”, it lets fans get up close and personal with their favorite adult performers. The premise of the cause: if you donate money (the expected donation is at least a thousand yen), you get to cop a feel of one of your favorite starlets’ breasts. It lasts twenty-four hours and is live-streamed for all to see (and enjoy). The annual event draws on talent who are eager to do some good. One of the participants, Rina Serina, said: “I never thought my boobs could contribute to society.” Talk about a grassroots initiative!

The Porn Charity

In partnership with Fine Young Capitalists, starlet Mercedes Carrera and some of her colleagues put on a live cam show with proceeds going to a STEM scholarship, making it the very first of its kind. STEM programs, an acronym for studies that include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, are notoriously expensive – which is why they’re unfortunately inaccessible to so many young people.

The fundraising model was pretty straight forward. Webcams.com, which broadcasts Carrera’s work, gave her free airtime, doubling all donations and tips made by subscribers to her show. Fine Young Capitalists dealt with the application process, making this a real team effort. Their performance, “The View of Sex”, raised $11,280 in just under two weeks, an impressive feat, to be sure. Most recently, the Porn Charity was in the process of registering as a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States and Carrera has ambitions of expanding it as well as creating a cause catered specifically for adult performers looking to expand their careers into other fields.

The ‘Game Of Balls’ Campaign

Not only was this ad campaign extremely clever (which is why it went viral), but it also did a lot of good, too. Brainchild of ad house M&C Saatchi Sydney, the Blue Balls Foundation in partnership with Digital Playground put together a public health announcement raising awareness for testicular cancer. The spot, which appeared in the middle of an adult movie, showcased real porn stars doing the dirty deed, only to have starlet Eva Lovia give an impromptu performance showing viewers how to examine their own balls for testicular cancer. At the end of the film, men who might have found something suspicious were advised to immediately contact a medical professional. The initiative was pure genius and immediately reached its targeted demographic in a way that was engaging and effective.

These are just a few examples of the ways in which the adult entertainment industry has restored our faith in humanity by contributing to good causes – often using clever and engaging techniques and mobilizing the power of their demographic to do good. This list isn’t by any means a comprehensive list of moments the adult industry has come through for humanity, there are plenty of other examples out there. Who said porn couldn’t be humanitarian?
