The alluring women of porn so capture our erotic imaginations that it seems impossible to imagine them doing anything else. I mean, you’ve gotta’ be pretty damn talented, and well-rounded, to go from performing sexual feats of Olympic proportions to becoming, say, a doctor—the very thing Sharon Mitchell, founder of now-defunct AIM Medical, did. Here, we’ve compiled a list of some of porn’s most dynamic starlets.

Traci Lords

Traci Lords is a rare example of a pornstar you’d recognize, not for her iconic work in adult entertainment, but for the roles she’s played on film and in television. With 163 mainstream screen credits to her name in films like Blade, Highlander, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and appearances on hit TV shows like Melrose Place, Gilmore Girls and Will and Grace, she’s got an impressive resume, to be sure. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also made her mark as a musician, boasting three billboard top-50 songs in the Dance/Club Play Songs category: “Last Drag”, “Control”, and “Fallen Angel”. Beyond her success in media and entertainment, she’s penned an autobiography, Traci Lords: Underneath It All, which was published in 2003 by HarperCollins and even made The New York Times Bestseller list. The autobiography details her experiences in the adult industry.

Sasha Grey

Grey was a household name during her time in adult entertainment. One might say that, from 2007-2010, she was the “it” girl, performing in over three hundred pornos, including plenty of hardcore fare. Besides her undisputed fame as one of the new millennium’s biggest starlets, she’s also an actress, writer of fiction, and a musician. She got her breakthrough role as the female lead in Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film, The Girlfriend Experience, and has since appeared in Open Windows and HBO’s Entourage, among many others. She’s a touring DJ and singer-songwriter, and was once a member of the industrial group aTelecine. Her erotic novels include, The Juliette Society, and recently-published The Janus Chamber. Like Traci Lords, Grey has been able to leverage her adult career into an equally impressive one in arts and entertainment.

Skin Diamond

When Skin Diamond left porn in 2016, it was to the great anguish of her many, many fans. That said, she’s been able to build new fans as an emerging singer-songwriter, performing under her real name, Raylin Joy. Her first hit single and music video, “Fire”, was produced by Ben Cole, who she writes her music with. Though she’s focusing on music, she’s also established herself as an actress in Showtime’s erotic thriller Submission.

Nina Hartley

At 58, Nina Hartley is still involved in the adult business, and it’s a good thing too because she’s one of porn’s legendary talents. With her famous, trademark butt, and brilliant blue eyes, she’s done it all in porn, and she’s also contributed her extensive talents in other realms, as an actress in 1997 film Boogie Nights, and as a respected sex educator, with her book: Nina Hartley’s Guide to Total Sex and How to Be Kinkier. Ever the trailblazer, she’s also shot a series of “how to” films, ranging from oral to anal sex. It should come as no surprise that the woman who was a nurse before she was a porn star, should have a career that’s benefited so many others, and one that’s been so sex positive at that.

Though these women are definite standouts, the list of “Jills of All Trades” is a long one, with plenty of other noteworthy names that could be added to it. One thing’s for certain when it comes to these ladies: porn has given them plenty of opportunities to broaden their careers and reach wider audiences as a result. We even took a look at many other porn stars who have found success in mainstream films and TV.
